Boyton Place is recognised as being a Bee Friendly development by the Bee Friendly Trust.

Persimmon Homes Suffolk is committed to creating homes for pollinators and other wildlife, not just people. As we design Boyton Place, we are seeking ways to improve the natural environment, in particular, enhancing the natural realm for pollinators. Pollinators are an integral part of a healthy ecosystem; if they are present and thriving then the rest of nature will flourish too.

In 2023, Persimmon Homes entered Boyton Place to win the Bee Friendly Trust’s Bee Friendly Award following extensive work with ecology consultants and West Suffolk’s Officers to create a development that has enhanced the natural realm for pollinators.

Pollinators are an integral part of a healthy ecosystem; if they are present and thriving then the rest of nature will flourish too.

We are able to create a successful Bee Friendly development by considering wildlife at the start of our designing process. Our Mitigation Map below shows how we plan for ecology before we plan for houses and this has enabled us to achieve a Biodiversity Net Gain over 3 times the Government Guidance.

How are we creating a Bee Friendly community at Boyton Place?

  • Using Natural Pesticides
  • Creating habitats and corresponding food sources for Pollinators
  • Providing educational opportunities for school children
  • Using seed mixes that are suitable to the soil and will provide a variety of flowers for a variety of pollinators
  • Giving away seed packets and supporting seed scattering
  • Celebrating World Bee Day

Future Bee Trail

Working with the local primary schools, Persimmon Homes will be launching a Bee information board Competition with the winning boards developed to create a Bee Trail around Boyton Place.

This Bee Trail will be a legacy, so future generations can continue to learn about bees and their habitats. The trail will connect the public open spaces together to create a walking route around the community.
