In the weeks leading up to Christmas contractors have been working on a clean-up of the first section of road from the Farrant Road/Haverhill Road junction to the central roundabout following the asphalt surfacing.

This means we have now completed the road from chainage 250 to 1820m, and are ready to open it to construction traffic, taking our works vehicles away from the completed residential area of the site.

We can now look to lay the final surfacing in Farrant Road as it will no longer be used by construction traffic.

We have experienced delays due to gas main changes that will be carried out with Cadent.
We are pleased to announce we have now finalised contracts with Cadent and invoices are being prepared by them allowing us to move forward with the work, starting this January.

Thank you for your patience during this period, we are now confident we will start to see progress with this project to enable us to meet the new scheduled completion of September 2024.

Open Space and Play Area between Phases 1 and 2

Following a period of poor weather which delayed work on the play areas between Phases 1 and 2, we are pleased to report that great progress has been made.  As can be seen from the photographs below, the play equipment is fully installed, and the area is turfed.  Once the turf has settled in, the play area will be available for use.  This should take approximately 3-5 weeks.

The remainder of the open space has been cultivated and prepared for seeding and should be completed by early February.  A further period of approximately 8-10 weeks will be required to allow the grass to mature.

An opening event is being planned for later this year to celebrate its completion.

Replacement Planting Phases 1 and 2

Following an audit of the trees around the initial phases of development it was established that a number of them had either died or been vandalised.  A programme of action has been put in place to ensure that these trees are replaced within the current planting season.  We would ask that residents are vigilant and report any acts of vandalism to the police if they witness any acts of destruction.

Phase 3a and the Local Centre

A series of workshops have taken place between Persimmon, West Suffolk Council and Haverhill Town Council Workshops for an exciting mixed use development at the heart of our North West development.  The proposals will include a landmark local centre and discussions are underway with commercial agents with a view to securing key tenants and the provision of a supermarket and cafĂ©.

Proposals for the Local Centre include a striking plaza, will provide a key focal point and meeting space at the heart of our north west development in close proximity to the primary school site.

We propose to hold an exhibition in the Town Hall in due course where members of the public can view the proposals and leave comments.  Dates will be communicated in advance via our website and the Haverhill Town Council.

It is anticipated that the application will be submitted in Spring 2024.

Phase 5a and 5C

Workshops are underway with Persimmon, West Suffolk Council and Haverhill Town Council Workshops for the next residential phase which comprises Phase 5a and 5c, to the south of the north west Haverhill development, to the west of an area of open space an play provision.

Proposals for these phases will be subject of an exhibition in the Town Hall later this year to seek comments from members of the public.

The application is to be submitted top West Suffolk Council in Autumn 2024.

Phase 6

Phase 6 is taking shape with over half the units having been constructed.  The residential phase offers a different but complementary take on the contemporary design of Phase 2b.  First completions took place before Christmas 2023.  Landscaping has been planted on the northern boundary and the eastern corridor will be planted later this year.

The Bridleway Open to All Traffic (BOAT)
